Trip to Saumur: 16-22 June 2020
We expect to start the trip from Warwick in the afternoon with Hanson coaches who will stay with us throughout the trip. We travel to Portsmouth (about 2 hours) arriving in time for an evening meal before boarding the overnight ferry to Ouistreham/Caen. After we have arrived in France we will stop for breakfast and then continue to Saumur (about 3 hours) arriving in time for lunch. We will return the same way travelling during the day, leaving Saumur after breakfast and getting back to Warwick late in the day.
We will be staying at the three star Hotel Le Londres in the town centre. The cost below is for a double or twin room but single occupancy is possible on payment of a £150 supplement. Please note that this a hotel of character with no lift though there are some ground floor rooms.
We expect there to be plenty of opportunities for making music. We hope to perform in a number of retirement homes as well as singing flash-mob style in suitable locations! We may even be invited to sing in the Town Hall. We envisage visits to Chateau Brézé (with its underground chateau), mushroom caves, troglodyte dwellings and to Ackerman’s wine cellars.
COSTS AND INITIAL DEPOSIT
The cost will be £1,000 plus ferry accommodation. This is for the ferry, coach travel throughout the trip, three star bed and breakfast accommodation in a twin or double room at Le Londres, evening meals in Portsmouth and at different restaurants in the centre of Saumur, and entrance fees. The ferry accommodation is £55 for two-berth, £75 for four-berth cabins and £5 for reclining seats.
To secure the ferry, accommodation and coach company we need deposits of £300 per person as soon as possible. Please note that the deposit is non-refundable after we have paid the initial deposits to the coach company, ferry and hotel. We will keep all those who pay the initial deposit, informed of further payments as well as all other information but we expect you will be able to pay monthly instalments between January and May.
Please let us know as soon as possible if you have any special, including dietary, needs. There are no lifts at the hotel and although all rooms are en suite only some rooms have baths.
It is possible that the trip will be over-subscribed in which case priority will be given on a first come, first served basis to choir members and their immediate family. If you have any questions please ask! Marian and I are feeling very confident that this is going to be a lovely trip and are looking forward to sharing it with you. If you want to see the movie of our trip in 2013 (as well as other trips), you can find this here or borrow the DVD.
